چکیده

Accurate oculomotor control is one of the essential pre-requisites for successful visuomotor coordination. In this paper, we suggest a biologically inspired control system for learning gaze stabilizationwith a biomimetic robotic oculomotor system. In a stepwise fashion, we develop a control circuit for the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and the opto-kinetic response (OKR), and add a nonlinear learning network to allow adaptivity. We discuss the parallels and differences of our system with biological oculomotor control and suggest solutions how to deal with nonlinearities and time delays in the control system. In simulation and actual robot studies, we demonstrate that our system can learn gaze stabilization in real time in only a few seconds with high final accuracy.

Biomimetic gaze stabilization based on feedback-error-learning with nonparametric regression networks

Oculomotor control in a humanoid robot faces similar problems as biological oculomotor systems, i.e. the stabilization of gaze in face of unknown perturbations of the body, selective attention, stereo vision, and dealing with large information processing delays. Given the nonlinearities of the geometry of binocular vision as well as the possible nonlinearities of the oculomotor plant, it is des...

Steering by Gazing: An Efficient Biomimetic Strategy for the Visual Stabilization of Micro-Air Vehicles

Flying insects and birds are able to navigate swiftly in unknown environments with very few computational resources. They are not guided via radio links with any ground stations and perform all the required calculations on-board. The ability to stabilize the gaze is the key to an efficient visual guidance system, as it reduces the computational burden associated with visuo-motor processing. Smo...

The effect of adding gaze direction recognition to stabilizing exercises on pain, muscular endurance and proprioception women with chronic non-specific neck pain

Aims and background: Gaze direction recognition is one of the new treatments method for neck pain. The positive effects of stabilization exercises in various studies on neck pain have also been confirmed. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of adding a gaze direction recognition program to common stabilizing exercises on neck pain intensity, muscular endurance and pro...

Evolution of Biological Image Stabilization

The use of vision to coordinate behavior requires an efficient control design that stabilizes the world on the retina or directs the gaze towards salient features in the surroundings. With a level gaze, visual processing tasks are simplified and behaviorally relevant features from the visual environment can be extracted. No matter how simple or sophisticated the eye design, mechanisms have evol...

Gaze stabilization exercises derive sensory reweighting of vestibular for postural control

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to investigate whether gaze stabilization exercise derives sensory reweighting of vestibular for upright postural control. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-three healthy volunteers participated in this study. The center of pressure of the total trajectory length was measured before (pre), immediately after (post), and 10 min after (post10) gaze stabilization exe...
